Taggie Blanket

I have always wanted to make one of these and now that Sarah is teething, I thought it would be the perfect Christmas gift for her!

Materials:
Scissors
Pins
thread
rotary cutter and mat
1/4 yard of flannel
1/4 yard of minky or other soft coordinating fabric
1/2 yard of six coordinating ribbon different widths and kinds.

We are making a 16x16 inch blanket.  You can choose to follow my pattern or you can make up your own pattern for your taste.

1-
Cut out fabric using your mat and rotary cutter.
Cut four (4) 3 1/2 inch squares from both fabric.
Cut four (4) 3 1/2 x 9 inch squares out of each fabric
Cut one (1) 9x9 inch square of each fabric.

 2-

Lay out fabric following the pattern in the picture.  There are two sides to our blanket.  One is the opposite of the picture below with the yellow fabric in the middle and the pink fabric on the outside.  To make it easier, lay out each side of the blanket before sewing.  You will make less mistakes and keep your pieces organized.

 3-

Sew fabric together.
Placing right sides together, sew a 1/4 inch seam along edge remembering to backstich at the beginning of the seam and after.  Sew the first row together, then the second row, then the third.
Then sew the first and second row together lining up seams and pinning before sewing.  Sew the third row to the fist and second row following the same procedure as before.
Sew the back of the blanket following the directions above.

4-

Cut Ribbon into strips
Cut ribbon into 3-4 inch strips depending on how long you want your tags to be.

5-

Pin your tags to the blanket.
With right sides out on your ribbon, fold the ends of the ribbon to each other and pin to the right side of the blanket with the tags facing inward.  Place tags equally around the blanket, making sure not to add ribbon any closer than 3/4 inches to the edge.

6-

Sew tags to blanket and turn.
Place the back of the blanket right sides together over the top of the blanket with the tags facing in.  Sew around blanket leaving an opening in the middle of a side about 3 inches long.
Turn the blanket right side out through the hole you left open.  Make sure the tags are in the right places and that no tags are loose.

7-

 Finish blanket with decorative stitch
Zig Zag around the edge of the blanket closing up the turning hole and finishing the look of the blanket.

 8-

Enjoy!
